About The Course

Level 1

This e-learning series explores the thematic area of Understanding Children’s Physical, Cognitive, Socio-emotion Development (3- 4 yrs) level 1, divided into three progressive different levels.

  • Level 1: Focuses on children aged 3–4 years
  • Level 2: Focuses on children aged 5–8 years
  • Level 3: Focuses on children aged 9–11 years

This Level 1 e-learning course is suitable for parents and guardians, early years practitioners, teachers, classroom support staff, foster care support staff, therapists, counsellors, social workers, other caregivers and other professionals who support or work with children. It is also suitable to any other adult, who is interested in learning more about children.


Course Objective

The objective of this ecourse is to introduce you to the concept of child development, the different areas of child development and specifically physical, cognitive and socio-emotional development that occurs among 3 – 4 years olds. In addition, you will learn how to support children of this age in their physical, cognitive and socio-emotional development.


Aims and Objectives

The aims and objectives of this course is to:

  • Introduce you to the concept of child development.
  • Develop sound knowledge of the various areas of child development, including physical, cognitive, and socio-emotional development.
  • Understand the stages of child development among children aged 3 – 4 years.
  • Learn what you can do to support children of this age in their physical, cognitive and socio-emotional development.

Expected Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Know the different stages of child development.
  • Recognise how to support 3 – 4-year-old children in their early developmental years.
  • Understand the role of parents, guardians, professionals and others who interact with children in and outside of early year settings.
  • Comprehend the different approaches of supporting children within this age group.
