About The Course
Level 2
This e-learning series explores the thematic area of Working Creatively with Children Using Dramatic Play, divided into three progressive levels:
- Level 1: Focuses on children aged 3–4 years
- Level 2: Focuses on children aged 5–8 years
- Level 3: Focuses on children aged 9–11 years
This Level 2 e-course is suitable for early years practitioners, teachers, classroom support staff, foster care professionals, therapists, counsellors, social workers, caregivers, and other professionals who work with children. It is also ideal for parents, guardians, and caregivers who engage closely with children in this age group.
Course Objectives
This course explores the role of dramatic play in the development of children aged 5–8 years. Dramatic play is a vital tool for fostering social, emotional, and cognitive growth. In this Level 2 e-course, learners will examine how dramatic play is used in the classroom, particularly in early primary and lower key stage settings, and discover practical ideas tailored to this age group.
Topics include creating an environment that supports dramatic play, incorporating puppetry into drama, identifying barriers to dramatic play in school settings, and understanding the link between dramatic play and socio-emotional development in children aged 5–8.
Aims and Objectives
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

- Create supportive environments for dramatic play
- Understand the benefits of dramatic play and its role in child development
- Identify common barriers to dramatic play in school settings
Expected Learning Outcomes
Learners will:

- Learn how to support and guide children aged 5–8 in engaging with dramatic and pretend play
Upon successful completion, learners will have in-depth knowledge of dramatic play and how to encourage it among children aged 5–8 years. A certificate of completion will be available to learners who pass the course assessment with a score of at least 70%.
