About The Course

Level 2

This e-learning series explores the thematic area of Working Creatively with Neurodiverse Children. The courses are structured across three progressive levels:

  • Level 1: Focuses on children aged 3–11 years
  • Level 2: Focuses on children aged 12–17 years
  • Level 3: Focuses on youth and adults aged 18 years and above

This Level 2 e-course is suitable for teachers, classroom support staff, foster care professionals, therapists, counsellors, social workers, caregivers, and other professionals who work with neurodiverse adolescents. It is also ideal for parents, guardians, and caregivers who engage closely with neurodivergent teenagers.


Course Objective

Adolescence is a pivotal stage in a young person’s life, marked by identity formation, emotional growth, and increasing independence. For neurodivergent teenagers, this period can present unique challenges alongside valuable strengths and perspectives.

This course introduces learners to the concept of neurodiversity in adolescence, explores the mental health conditions commonly associated with neurodivergence during this age, and provides practical strategies for supporting neurodivergent teenagers in academic, social, and emotional contexts.


Aims and Objectives

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Understand the concept of neurodiversity in young people aged 12–17
  • Explore the relationship between neurodivergence and adolescent mental health
  • Discover inclusive and creative methods for supporting neurodivergent teenagers
  • Learn how parents, caregivers, and professionals can guide adolescents through this developmental stage

Expected Learning Outcomes

Learners will:

  • Understand what neurodiversity is and how it affects adolescents aged 12–17
  • Recognise the association between neurodivergence and mental health conditions
  • Learn how to support neurodivergent teenagers in educational, social, and home environments
  • Explore practical strategies for promoting inclusion, emotional wellbeing, and self-advocacy

Upon successful completion, learners will gain in-depth knowledge of neurodiversity in adolescence and how to support neurodivergent young people in their daily lives. A certificate of completion will be available to learners who pass the course assessment with a score of at least 70%.
