About The Course
Level 2
This series of e-learning e-courses explore the thematic areas of children’s physical, cognitive, and socio-emotional development. The courses are structured across three progressive levels:
- Level 1: Focuses on children aged 3–4 years
- Level 2: Focuses on children aged 5–8 years
- Level 3: Focuses on children aged 9–11 years
This Level 2 e-course is suitable for early years practitioners, teachers, classroom support staff, foster care professionals, therapists, counsellors, social workers, caregivers, and other professionals who work with children. It is also suitable for parents, guardians, and individuals with a general interest in child development.
Course Objective
The objective of this e-course is to introduce learners to the concept of child development, with a specific focus on the physical, cognitive, and socio-emotional growth of school-age children aged 5–8 years. Learners will also explore practical strategies that parents, caregivers, and early years practitioners can use to support children’s development in these areas.
Aims and Objectives
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
- Understand the concept of child development
- Identify key developmental stages among children aged 5–8 years
- Learn how caregivers can support physical, cognitive, and socio-emotional development in this age group
Expected Learning Outcomes
Learners will:
- Recognize the stages of child development in early school-age children
- Understand how to support 5–8-year-olds during their formative years
- Appreciate the roles of parents, guardians, educators, and other professionals in early childhood settings
- Explore various approaches to nurturing development in this age group
Upon successful completion, learners will gain in-depth knowledge of child development among children aged 5–8 years. A certificate of completion will be available to learners who pass the course assessment with a score of at least 70%.
